As Arlington becomes more densely populated, developing affordable apartment communities along the Metro corridor is increasingly challenging.
Several AHC properties -- complete or still on the drawing board -- provide convenient access to Metro stops on Arlington's Orange Line, including the Rosslyn, Courthouse, and Ballston Metro Stations.
1537-1545 Key Boulevard, MAP
Located near the Rosslyn Metro Station, Key Boulevard is an aging 1940s affordable community with 41 units.
2230 North Fairfax Drive, MAP
Located 1/4 mile from the Courthouse Metro Station, The Frederick includes 108 affordable apartments, a 4,300-square-foot community center with onsite Resident Services programs, underground parking, and play areas for children. The nine-story building, which was completed in 2007, is next door to a 98-unit market-rate building, the Park at Courthouse, also owned by AHC.
2335 North 11th Street, MAP
Woodbury Park provides 364 garden apartments. The all-brick apartment homes, nestled next to The Frederick and surrounded by landscaped grounds, are just 1/4 mile from the Courthouse Metro Station. Community also includes onsite community center, Resident Services programs, play areas for children.
801 North Wakefield Street, MAP
Located 1/4 mile from the Ballston shopping district and metro station. Currently under development, the new four-story brick apartment building will include 90 affordable apartments when it opens in 2011.The project, which includes a U-shaped inner courtyard, is part of five-acre, mixed-use complex under development at the intersection of Wilson Boulevard and Glebe Road.
4108 North 4th Street, MAP
Less than 3/4 mile from the Ballston-MU Metro Stop, the Gates of Ballston won a 2009 Historic Preservation Award from the National Trust for Historic Preservation. The garden-style apartments have been completely renovated. A new 10,000-square-foot community center opened in 2008. The 17-acre community includes 464 affordable apartments.
