Studies have shown that students experience substantial learning loss over the summer months -- particularly low-income youngsters -- that can negatively affect their educational progress.
AHC's Summer Camp is designed to help youngsters overcome that challenge.
In AHC's award-winning program, volunteers work with elementary age students on academic (math and literacy) enrichment activities as well as creative activities and field trips.
With volunteers' help and positive influence students will become more confident in their abilities and bridge the learning loss gap over the summer months.
Enthusiastic volunteers are critical to the program's success. Volunteer opportunities are available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The 2012 program runs from July 9 through August 10. The hours are typically 12:00 pm- 5:00 pm. Any time you can volunteer is great, whether an hour or the whole day works. There will be chances to go on some exciting field trips all over the DC, MD and VA region.
AHC has six different centers you can participate in -- two of them are Metro accessible (Ballston and Courthouse).
This is a wonderful opportunity to meet and work with children in a highly creative and fun atmosphere. We need your enthusiasm and positive attitude to make this summer a great one.
This volunteer opportunity is great for high school, college students, teachers on summer break or retirees.
