AHC believes it takes more than bricks and mortar to build a successful future. A community is all about people, and AHC is committed to supporting and strengthening the families and individuals who live in our apartments. Many of our residents face myriad challenges – economic, social, transportation, language difficulties – and struggle just to make ends meet.
AHC’s award-winning Resident Services program is helping hundreds of residents better meet these challenges. Our updated, vibrant community centers have become hubs of activities with after-school programs, teen tutoring, workshops for seniors, and English language classes. These programs are making a real difference in the lives of more than 2,000 people.
AHC offers after-school programs for elementary children, tutoring for teens, and a Youth Alliance program to encourage high school students to make positive choices before and after they graduate. We welcome volunteers for all these programs. For more information, contact Jennifer Cavaliere, 703-486-0626 x 154.
Donations go directly to programs serving children and families in our Resident Services program. Our 2008 Annual Membership Appeal is funding our Summer Camp program that reaches 150 children and teens. Why donate? Studies show summer learning is key to children’s long-term educational success. Our program, which combines fun with a host of educational activities, can help young people stay on the right track and develop successful, productive lives. Read more.
Donate materials through our Wish List.
If you prefer to donate specific items, please check out the Resident Services Wish List. You’ll find items for our youth activities-- After-School program, Summer Camp, Outdoor Activities, and our Book Club Program. Items range from scrapbooks for literacy-building projects or books to jump ropes or bathing suits for children who may not regularly have an opportunity to swim in the summer.
