some ways you can get involved:

After-School Programs
Have a passion to help children aged 5 to 11? We need committed volunteers to work with our After-School Programs. Hours are from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. — Monday, Tuesday and Thursday — and 1:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Opportunities include reading with children, helping with homework, and supervising games and activities, such as crafts projects.

Teen Tutoring
We are looking for dedicated volunteers to help our middle and high school students with homework, and more importantly, to be a role model and mentor. AHC’s Teen Tutoring program, which runs from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m. once a week, provides a friendly environment to foster both academic and life skills. Tutors are paired with one student throughout the school year to help youngsters and volunteers build an ongoing personal relationship. Tutors, often by sharing their own experiences, can inspire and encourage teens to do well in school and make smart long-term career, educational and life-style choices. (For this reason, we ask volunteers to commit for the entire school year.) With volunteers’ help and positive influence, this program really works. Students improve their grades, become more confident, and stay in school.

Youth Alliance
AHC’s Youth Alliance is designed to help high school students navigate the challenges facing today’s teens, and develop the leadership skills and self-confidence to make positive choices after they graduate from high school. The Youth Alliance program meets once a week in the evening at AHC’s community centers. There are also special activities that take place on the weekends.
