AHC’s Teen Tutoring program has been pairing volunteers with middle and high school students for more than 20 years. The program has helped over 100 youth successfully graduate from high school and generated countless long-lasting relationships. One of these volunteers, Sharon, was paired with a very young middle school student, Bibho, after she started volunteering. The opportunity has been a positive experience for them both.

More than 300 supporters joined AHC Inc. to celebrate its 40th Anniversary this fall. The event highlighted the organization’s growth and achievements, honored five new Housing Hall of Fame members, celebrated student winners who submitted winning essays and art work, and elected AHC Board members.
As part of AHC’s 40th Anniversary, students in our youth program were invited to participate in Essay and Artwork contests and describe how they feel about being a part of AHC communities. Elementary students were asked to create a piece of artwork with the theme “The Place I Call Home.” Middle and high school students wrote essays that described “How AHC’s Community Centers Affected My Life.” The winning students were recognized at AHC’s 40th Anniversary Celebration.
AHC Inc. is delighted to announce the election of five Board members during the organization’s 40th Anniversary Celebration in September. The elected Board members are David Barsky, Jason Dalley, C.C. Jenkins, Justin Oliver, and John Snyder.
Dr. Leonard L. Hamlin, Sr. has been pastor of Macedonia Baptist Church in Arlington since 1996 and has been actively involved in preserving and developing affordable housing throughout his ministry. Under Dr. Hamlin’s leadership, the Macedonia Baptist Church partnered with AHC to build the Macedonia, 36 affordable apartments across the street from the church. The partnership has been a wonderful success.
AHC Inc. is proud to celebrate Harkins Builders as a 2016 Housing Hall of Fame honoree. Harkins has been a major business partner with AHC since 2005, and has worked with AHC on nine AHC construction and renovation projects over the last 10 years. Beyond Harkins’ professionalism and ability to deliver a quality product for our residents, it is Harkins’ culture of service to both client and community that truly earns them a place in AHC’s Hall of Fame.
