We take the safety and well-being of our residents extremely seriously and we are working to build a better future for residents of The Serrano apartment building, which is owned by AHC Inc. and currently managed by one of our great partners Drucker & Falk. In response to reports from some residents about unacceptable conditions in several units, AHC Inc. and Drucker & Falk are working closely with the Arlington County Housing Commission, County officials, and community organizations, to ensure that residents’ concerns are not only heard but addressed as soon as possible.
AHC Inc. is breaking ground on the redevelopment of Arlington View Terrace East (AVT), a garden-style affordable housing community located on Arlington’s Columbia Pike, one of the County’s main corridors. The $39 million new construction project will create an expanded, sustainably designed community, which will provide residents with modern conveniences, such as free WiFi, a community room, fitness room, courtyard, and parking garage, as well as advanced green-building systems including roof-top solar.
Since the beginning of the outbreak, some 250 volunteers regularly donated their time and energy to work hand-in-hand with AHC’s staff and ensure that affordable housing residents continued to receive vital services. In addition, numerous community organizations and more than 100 volunteers helped AHC expand its food distribution program from six to 26 sites. Volunteers also continued to tutor and mentor K-12 students virtually, providing a critical lifeline to students struggling to keep up with the curriculum during the pandemic.
A year ago, AHC Inc., like most organizations, had to shutter its in-person activities in response to the fast-moving pandemic. At the same time, AHC had to quickly switch gears to respond to new and accelerating needs among our residents. Thanks to a committed and determined Resident Services team, AHC Inc. was able to spring into action to help more than 3,000 residents weather the challenges of the pandemic, including accessing $2.7 million in rental relief funds.
AHC Inc. has acquired two prime properties in Fairfax County, which will preserve 292 affordable homes on a 16-acre site in the Fort Belvoir/City of Alexandria Route 1 corridor. The acquisition was made in partnership with Virginia Housing and Fairfax County to fulfill their goal of providing safe, affordable homes for the residents of Fairfax County.
This acquisition ensures the preservation of 292 apartments as affordable homes. The properties will provide homes for residents earning between 50% and 80% of the Area Median Income or between $63,000 and $79,600 for a family of four. Affordability will be implemented in a phased approach upon turnover.
