The murders of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor are deeply horrific – and are only the most recent atrocities in our nation’s long history of systemic racism. As an organization dedicated to providing affordable and stable homes for people in need, AHC Inc. does not tolerate racial injustice. AHC is committed to standing up against racism in all its forms and listening to and supporting our colleagues, neighbors, residents, and partners.
During Volunteer Appreciation Month, we celebrate the 400 volunteers who provided more than 6,000 hours this year to residents in our affordable apartment communities. That includes 23 dedicated individuals who have volunteered for more than five years and 68 volunteers from 20+ different businesses and groups.
AHC is partnering with Rosie Riveters, a nonprofit dedicated to engaging and inspiring girls ages 4 to 14 in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM), and Amazon to deliver curated STEM kits for girls to participate in hands-on STEM learning from home.
2019 has been a busy year as AHC continues our mission of developing affordable homes and helping communities thrive. As we approach our 45th anniversary, AHC provides more than 7,500 affordable apartments at 50+ properties in Virginia, Maryland and DC. AHC’s Resident Services programs and community partnerships also continue to grow to better meet the needs of the children, families and seniors we serve. We currently reach more than 3,000 residents each year.
AHC Greater Baltimore has won the Maryland Affordable Housing Coalition’s 2019 Innovation Award for its Health & Wellness Program at MonteVerde Apartments.
