AHC and APAH Hire Housing Policy Intern in Memory of Pat McGrady

AHC and the Arlington Partnership for Affordable Housing (APAH) are teaming up to honor long-time affordable housing advocate Pat McGrady (1935-2022).

Sarah Joyce, the first Pat McGrady Affordable Housing intern

The Pat McGrady Housing Policy Internship is a new collaboration inspired by the former APAH board member and AHC Housing Hall of Fame awardee. Pat was deeply committed to improving the lives of all people, especially the most vulnerable in our society. She worked tirelessly and spoke up relentlessly on voting rights, human rights, affordable housing, and countless other issues. By creating the internship, AHC and APAH continue Pat’s legacy of passionate commitment to social justice.

"We are excited to welcome Sarah Joyce to AHC as the first Pat McGrady Affordable Housing Policy intern,” says Jennifer Endo, AHC Vice President of Community Relations. "This unique position was created jointly by APAH and AHC to honor Pat’s legacy as a passionate, long-time social justice activist and affordable housing advocate in the D.C. region."

“Pat McGrady’s extraordinary commitment to affordable housing remains an inspiration to us who continue her work. APAH is humbled to collaborate with AHC to create the Pat McGrady Affordable Housing Policy Internship. We are thrilled to welcome Sarah Joyce to our team and to the industry that Pat cared so deeply about,” says Carmen Romero, APAH’s President and CEO.

During the internship, Sarah will spend five weeks working for each affordable housing nonprofit. She will focus on specific projects related to housing policy and advocacy. Sarah is a recent graduate of William & Mary with a double degree in Public Policy and Sociology.

As a Northern Virginia native, Sarah knows the need for affordable housing and wants to be a conduit of change. For the last two years, she has been a research fellow in the Affordable Housing Project of the Social Justice Policy Initiative at William & Mary. In that role, she examined public attitudes toward expanding affordable housing in Williamsburg, Virginia.
